Ireland Killarney & The Ring of Kerry
Sunday: Day 1 We make our way to Fishguard for the early afternoon crossing to Rosslare. From there we make our way to the Dooley’s Hotel, Waterford for an overnight stay.
Monday: Day 2 We continue our journey east, stopping at Blarney Castle, where the brave can kiss the famous Blarney Stone! We travel on to the Holiday Inn, Killarney, our base for four nights.
Tuesday: Day 3 A full day tour of the Ring of Kerry. There are over 100 miles of spectacular scenery around the Iveragh Peninsula, dominated by MacGillycuddy’s Reeks. All along this journey, you will experience rocky headlands interspersed with coastal villages and sandy beaches, whilst at the end of your tour there will be the stunning views of Killarney Lakes.
Wednesday: Day 4 We enjoy a spectacular trip through the Killarney National Park and along the edge of Loch Leane to Ross Castle. From here we catch the ‘Lily of Killarney’, to cruise across the lake - a memorable way to view the surrounding mountains. We then spend the rest of our day at leisure in Killarney, where a lot of the shops stay open until 10pm.
Thursday: Day 5 A full day excursion around the breathtaking Dingle Peninsula, the setting for the film ‘Ryan’s Daughter’.We travel to Tralee, with its veritable feast of activities for the visitor, including the fascinating ‘Kerry the Kingdom’ Museum. We continue to Dingle, a fishing village who’s most famous resident is ‘Fungi’ the dolphin, then a circular tour around the most westerly tip of the Peninsula. At Slea Head promontory, the Blasket Islands come into full view.
Friday: Day 6 Time to leave Killarney and start the trip home. On the way, visit Muckross House, Gardens and Traditional Farm. This Victorian mansion is elegantly furnished, fully befitting Queen Victoria, one of its most famous guests. After lunch we journey on to the Crosbie Cedars Hotel in Rosslare for an overnight stop.
Saturday: Day 7 Following an early breakfast, we go to the ferry terminal for the morning crossing to Fishguard. Making suitable stops en-route, we travel through South Wales and back to Somerset, arriving late afternoon.
Our hotel: The Holiday Inn Kilarney is located a short walking distance from the centre of Killarney. All bedrooms are en-suite with telephone, television, tea and coffee making facilities and hairdryer. Dooley's Hotel in the heart of Waterford. All rooms are en-suite with tv, direct dial telephone, hairdryer and trouser press. The Crosbie Cedars in Rosslare is a 3* hotel, situated just five minutes from the ferry terminal. All of the 34 bedrooms are en-suite with telephone, tv and tea and coffee making facilities.
