Cambridge & The National Stud
For its university, carols in Kings College Chapel and punting on the River Cam, Cambridge is a cultural delight. The splendour of its ancient heart with medieval streets, college, courts, ornate bridges and gardens - is perfectly preserved.
Friday: Day 1 We depart Somerset and make our way east initially making a stop in historic Windsor. We continue to Cambridge and The Holiday Inn Cambridge, our base for three nights.
Saturday: Day 2 We make our way to the National Stud, arriving in time for the morning tour. Incorporating a visit to the superb stallion unit, with the stallions in residence, nursery yards and the mares and foals in their paddocks. From there it is on to the National Horse Racing Museum, where there’s the opportunity to try your hand at saddling up a racehorse and getting into jockey’s silks!
Sunday: Day 3 We make a trip to the RAF museum in Duxford. The site houses a collection of nearly 200 aircraft and military and naval vehicles in seven main exhibition buildings. Early afternoon we return to Cambridge for some time to explore the delightful city.
Monday: Day 4 Time to start the journey home, we take a different route, stopping for lunch in Stratford-upon-Avon, before returning to Somerset.
Our hotel: We stay at the Holiday Inn Cambridge, a modern 4* hotel situated on the outskirts of the historic city of Cambridge. All of the 161 bedrooms are en-suite, and equipped with tv, telephone, hairdryer, iron and tea and coffee making facilities. The hotel’s excellent leisure facilities include an indoor swimming pool, whirlpool, steam room, sauna and gym.
