Scottish Railway Adventure
The circular tour covers Scotland’s West Coast, the Highlands and the East Coast with lots of wonderful scenery in between. From the peaceful serenity of the Isle of Skye to the bustle of Edinburgh, this tour is full of adventure.
Sunday – Day 1 Via the motorways we head north, crossing the border into Scotland. We continue to the Erskine Hotel on the outskirts of Glasgow for an overnight stay.
Day 2 A lovely morning drive alongside Loch Lomond to Crainlarich, the gateway to the Highlands. Its station is set where the great lines of the highlands fork and enter the mountain terrain. Board the train for a spectacular ride over Rannoch Moor, where no roads go, then via Fort William and the ‘Road To The Isles’ to Mallaig. After some time in the town we rejoin the coach for a scenic crossing to the Isle of Skye and travel on to the Kings Arms Hotel in Kyleakin, our base for 2 nights.
Day 3 A full day excursion around the Isle of Skye with a local guide. We take a circular tour via Sligachan, Dunvegan and Skeabost to the island’s capital of Portree.
Day 4 Cross the Skye Bridge to Kyle of Lochalsh where we board the train for our second spectacular railway journey across the highlands, passing the beautiful lochs, majestic mountains and deep valleys to Inverness. We rejoin the coach and continue our scenic journey across Scotland as we travel to Dundee and the Landmark Hotel for a 2 night stay.
Day 5 After yesterday’s long journey, a much more leisurely excursion is planned today as we travel to St Andrews, famous golf resort and place of education for several member of the Royal Family.
Day 6 We board the train for the third of our train journeys, crossing 2 mighty rivers, the Tay and the Forth on spectacular railway bridges. We spend some time at leisure in the city of Edinburgh, before continuing to the nearby Keavil House Hotel in Dunfermline for an overnight stay.
Day 7 We depart the hotel, and make our way back across the border heading southbound and home.
