Cornish Rainforests, Shipwrecks & Cyder

Cornwall has such a lot to offer, from beachside hotels, fishing villages, manor houses and gardens to rainforests, shipwrecks and Cyder!  Get a real taste of Cornwall from our base in one of the UK’s favourite seaside towns and experience them all!  Newquay is Cornwall’s premier holiday resort, boasting some of the finest coastline in Europe and no less than eleven beaches! Although well known as Britain’s surfing capital, there are many other activities to enjoy and the surrounding countryside has a wealth of places to visit.

We depart Somerset and head west making our first stop of the tour at the Pencarrow Estate.  Pencarrow lies at the foot of a valley midway between Bodmin and Wadebridge and is approached through a mile-long drive, flanked by stunning specimen conifers from around the world, nearly 700 varieties of rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias and hydrangeas. The imposing Palladian style house, built in 1771, contains a superb collection of paintings by many famous artists, including a unique collection of works by Sir Joshua Reynolds, set amongst outstanding furniture and porcelain.  We then continue to Newquay, and the Esplanade Hotel.  Upon arrival at the hotel enjoy a welcome cup of tea or coffee whilst your bags are taken to your room .

The Eden Project is our destination today. Nestled in a huge crater, massive Biomes house the largest rainforest in captivity.  In the afternoon, we make our way to Charlestown with its pristine, unspoilt Grade II Listed Harbour and its famous fleet of Square Riggers ships.  A popular location for films and TV programmes, the harbour and ships are used in film projects from all over the world and are a particular draw for visitors. .

A full day at leisure in our host resort of Newquay.

Today we experience a unique piece of Cornish heritage with a tour of Tolgus Mill.  The mill tour will take us through the process of tin streaming and how tin ore is smelted on-site to create exquisite Cornish jewellery.  We will learn about the machinery and explore the ingenuity and human stories behind this last working link to Cornwall’s past.  After the tour, you can visit the workshop and see first-hand how stunning pieces of jewellery are created and browse the shop afterwards.  Then, it is on to St Ives, the picturesque fishing harbour and seaside town with a subtropical paradise of palm trees, golden sands and breath-taking coastal scenery.

Today we make our way to Truro, the county town of Cornwall.  The stunning Gothic Revival Cathedral is our first port of call with its three soaring spires and beautiful stained glassed windows.  We will then visit the family run Healey’s Cornish Cyder Farm, the largest cider makers in Cornwall where a range of award winning ciders, wines, spirits and preserves are produced. You will be taken on a journey through the press house, jam factory, museum, distillery, and cellars, before climbing the cider vat and enjoying an aerial view of our modern cider production halls.

Time to head for home, but first we visit the charming fishing port of Padstow – an historic fishing port on the edge of King Arthur’s country and renowned today as much for its pretty quayside as its association with celebrity chef Rick Stein. We then re-join our coach and conclude our journey home.

About Our Tours

We have been operating tours and mini breaks around the U.K. and abroad for a number of years, and by far the most popular innovation that we have introduced in recent years, is to offer a virtually door to door service. Picking up as near as practically possible to your home in Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire means you don’t have to worry about getting your luggage to the coach, and avoids the additional cost of having to use taxis.

By using our small fleet of mini-buses, we are able to keep the pick-up time to a minimum and get you on your tour coach and on your way as soon as possible. This way your holiday starts on the first morning. Once your holiday is over we will collect you again from the coach park and return you home.
