Isle of Man - Magic of the Manx

Blessed with extensive scenic coastlines, stunning natural landscapes and unspoilt beaches, the Isle of Man has something to appeal to everyone- only a short ferry crossing from the British mainland but with a character that sets it apart. The island is a unique self-governing Kingdom, a crown dependency which belongs to neither the UK nor the European Union.  It has its own parliament, laws, traditions culture, cuisine and postage stamps.

We depart Somerset and via the motorways travel north, to the Best Western Plus Samlesbury Hotel near to Preston for an overnight stay.

We make our way to the Port of Heysham ahead of the early afternoon crossing to the Isle of Man. Once on the island we make the short journey to the Chesterhouse Hotel on the Douglas  seafront - our base for 4 nights.

We travel to Peel where we visit the House of Manannan. The legendary sea god Manannan will guide you through the island's rich Celtic, Viking and maritime past - journey through life-size reconstructions and film shows with atmospheric sounds and smells. See the replica Viking ship Odin's Raven and discover a time when the island was at the centre of a powerful sea kingdom. Then, we return to Douglas for a chance to explore our host resort ad the Island's capital - a seafront setting and many shops, bars, restaurants and attractions. We continue to the Manx Musuem where we discover the island's facinating 10,000 year old history and explore the art gallery's various exhibitions devoted to all things Manx.

We make our way to Laxey, for an included visit of Lady Isabella - the world's largest working waterwheel and perhaps the best known image of the island. We then join the Snaefell Mountain Railway, where electric powered trains take pasengers over 2000 feet up to the summit of Snaefell, the islands highest point. Then it is onto Ramsey for our lunchstop, before we make our way to the Jurby Transport Musuem. Explore the amazing soties behind a collection of over 250 unique vehicles from around the world, including classic cars and motor vehicles and rarely seen private motorcycles. The Musuem was founded and funded by father and son team Denis and Daren Cunningham to act as the public home for their collection of over 130 vehicles. The Musuem also hosts over 150 other vehicles on loan from other enthusiasts and collectors. The Isle of Man was chosen as the location for Musuem due to the unique place the Island occupies in motoring and motorsports history having hosted the famous TT races on the public roads annually since 1907.

We join the Isle of Man steam railway in Douglas and head to Port Erin, a peaceful town with pretty gardens and a sandy beach that was first favoured by Victorian holidaymakers. We then journey back in time to the fasinating living musuem of Cregneash Folk Village, where residents continue to use horse power and speak the old local dialect. Then, it is onto the ancient capital of Castletown and the wonderfully preserved Castle Rushen. Nearby are the wonderful views around Calf Sound and the village of Port Erin nestling in its scenic bay.

An early departure from the hotel as we make the short transfer back to the ferry terminal ahead of our ferry crossing from Douglas back across to Heysham, before we continue our journey home.

About Our Tours

We have been operating tours and mini breaks around the U.K. and abroad for a number of years, and by far the most popular innovation that we have introduced in recent years, is to offer a virtually door to door service. Picking up as near as practically possible to your home in Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire means you don’t have to worry about getting your luggage to the coach, and avoids the additional cost of having to use taxis.

By using our small fleet of mini-buses, we are able to keep the pick-up time to a minimum and get you on your tour coach and on your way as soon as possible. This way your holiday starts on the first morning. Once your holiday is over we will collect you again from the coach park and return you home.
