Looe - Our Cornish Delight

The pretty fishing town of Looe is truly delightful and picturesque place, separated into two towns of East and West Looe by the River Looe flowing out to sea. The small harbour is still a busy fishing port, watch the ships unload their catches, witness the auctions an then after the bustle of quayside retreat to the narrow streets. Here you will find an abundance of art and craft shops, boutique bars and specialist shops. Looe really does have something for everyone.

FRIDAY
We make our mid-morning depature west, initially travelling to Polperro - a largely un-spoilt fishing village on Cornwall's South East coast. Its beautiful cottages cling to steep hillsides around a small harbour with spectacular views of land and sea making it an artist's paradise. We then continue to nearby Looe where we check in at the Portbyhan Hotel and you can then spend some time relaxing over a complimentary tea or coffee admiring the spectacular views or go for a stroll around the quayside before dinner.

SATURDAY
We initially visit the lovely town of Fowey with its narrow streets and gorgeous harbour views before continuing to Charlestown with its pristine unspoilt original Grade II Listed Harbour and its famous fleet of Square Riggers ships. We visit the Shipwreck and Heritage centre. Brought together over the last 45/50 years, it forms the basis of one of the most unusual and interesting collections open to the public. There are countless items from a bygone age as well as artefacts from over 150 shipwrecks. The many and varied exibitions reflect village life in Charlestown , its history, shipwrecks and the once thriving China Clay industry. The exhibition shows a remendous range of martime history dating back to 1715. The, we make tghe shgort trip to St Austell Brewery Visitor Centre, which offers a new and interactive Brewing Experience. The refurbished, accessable visitor centre reveals the secrets that are behind St Austell's award winning ales and 160 year old brewing process. The interactive tour includes digital and physcial display, a stroll down Walters Walk will show us how things used to be done at the brewery, a recostructed Coopers Yard and a visit to the Small Batch Brewery with tutored beer sampling and a pint of St Austell beer to enjoy at the on-site Hicks Bar, or in a bottle to take home.

SUNDAY
Today we visit Lanhydrock House, an impressive late Victorian home and gardens. Following a fire in 1881 the owner Thomas Charles filed Lanhydrock with the latest technology, including state of the art ovens and warming cupboards in the kitchen and dining areas, central heating systems and fire hydrants. We can see the fascinating contrast between the upstairs and downstairs worlds by exploring the kitchens and servants quarters as well as the grand family spaces. After spending a relaxing time here we re-join the coach for the short drive to join the Bodmin and Wendford Railway at Bodmin General Station where we take a return journey to Boscarne Junction.

MONDAY
We load the coach for our homeward journey, however before we depart enjoy the morning exploring our host resort of Looe. We then start the trip home but enjoy one final attraction in Buckland Abbey Garden and Estate - once owned by Cisercian Monks nearly 800 years ago, today is under the care of the National Trust. The Abbey is part musuem, part house and is crammed with a variety of treasures. As you wander through the Abbey you'll discover a wealth of facsinating tales, amazing architecture and over eight centuries of history. We then re-join the coach and head for home.

About Our Tours

We have been operating tours and mini breaks around the U.K. and abroad for a number of years, and by far the most popular innovation that we have introduced in recent years, is to offer a virtually door to door service. Picking up as near as practically possible to your home in Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire means you don’t have to worry about getting your luggage to the coach, and avoids the additional cost of having to use taxis.

By using our small fleet of mini-buses, we are able to keep the pick-up time to a minimum and get you on your tour coach and on your way as soon as possible. This way your holiday starts on the first morning. Once your holiday is over we will collect you again from the coach park and return you home.
