Tuesday Day 2
Today we spend the day at leisure in Blackpool one of the best beach resorts in the UK - enjoy an ice cream on the promenade or visit each of the three piers Blackpool has to offer along it's Golden Mile. The Grade II Listed North Pier is a great starting point, and home to Victorian Tea Rooms, two tier Venetian Carousel and Ice Cream Parlour. Not far down the beach is the Blackpool Tower where you can visit the Blackpool Tower Circus, the Tower Dungeon and the magnificent Tower Ballroom. The Central Pier is home to a 108ft high ferris wheel with amazing views over Blackpool. The South Pier is close to Sandcastle Waterpark and Blackpool Pleasure Beach with go-karting, roller coasters and waltzers. The Sea Life Centre showcases more than fifty dazzling displays including tropical sharks, colourful reef fish, rays and sea horses, the perfect way to experience the wonders of underwater life without getting wet.
Wednesday Day 3
Today there's a chance to explore the villages of the Ribble Valley beginning at the bustling market town of Clitheroe, a real gem for shoppers. Carry on to the unspoilt village of Downham nestling under Pendle Hill - the setting for the film Whistle down the wind, and the BBC's Born and Bred series. Pendle Hill provides a stunning backdrop to the town, where George Fox had his vision that launched the Quaker movement, and in the 17th century, scene for the saga of the Lancashire witches - notions of black magic still form the basis of a Hallowe'en night tradition when hundreds of people clamber over the hill. Continue on through the stunning scenery, and the grandeur of Stonyhurst College comes into view - JRR Tolkein spent much of his time writing Lord of the Rings in a classroom on the upper gallery of the college. Take a step back in time in Slaidburn, and walk through the narrow streets to soak up the ancient atmosphere. It has been largely owned by a single family for the past 200 years, and has remained unspoilt by modern development. You will find farm craft shops brimming with pottery and gifts. Journey on to Waddington Fell before dropping down into the award winning village of Waddington, and conclude the visit back in Clitheroe.
Thursday Day 4
Today we will spend the day in the classic Victorian seaside resort of Southport, where one of the best places to go is Lord Street, a treelined boulevard covered with Victorian wrought iron, home to shops, restaurants and quaint tearooms, as well as Wayfarers Arcade, a unique Victorian shopping centre with its glass and iron domed roof. Stroll along the country's oldest iron pier, take a boat trip on Marine Lake, the UK's largest manmade leisure lake, or visit the model railway museum. Wander down Lord Street, the treeline main shopping street, covered with Victorian wrought iron, or visit Wayfarers Arcade, a unique Victorian shopping centre.
