Explore this Victorian seaside town and others.

Often referred to as the sunniest place in Great Britain and nestled at the foot of the South Downs National Park, Eastbourne has been attracting holiday makers since Victorian times.  Famed for its Victorian buildings, fabulous seafront promenade and pier, Eastbourne also has some excellent shopping, with a mix of high street names and small independent boutiques along with miles of wonderful beaches.  This tour also features a visit to an historic castle, a day beside the seaside in Brighton and to indulge in some Spectacular Science at the Observatory Science Centre.

Sunday - Day 1

After your home pick up we head to the south and make good progress along the motorways, making our way eastbound. We depart Somerset and head east to Sussex. Our first stop is in Chichester where you have some time at leisure and the chance to explore the world-renowned Cathedral and its Bishop’s Palace Gardens, picturesque Cathedral Close and the Novium Museum. You can enjoy lunch in the Cloisters Cafe or The Exclusive Cake Shop & Tea rooms. We then proceed along the south coast and to the Hadleigh Hotel in in Eastbourne, our base for 4 nights.

Monday - Day 2

We visit Bodiam Castle, set in the heart of an historic landscape, with spiral staircases, battlements and a portcullis, a tower that was once a look-out and ruins that were once walked upon by knights. In the impressive gatehouse is the castle's original wooden portcullis, an extremely rare example of its kind and, beyond into the courtyard, enough of the interior ruins survive to give an impression of castle life. In the afternoon we join the Kent and East Sussex railway for a journey from Bodiam to Tenterden. We then have some time in the tree lined high street of Tenterden before returning to the hotel.

Tuesday - Day 3

Today is free for you to explore Brighton. Famed for its pebble beach and stylish regency architecture, together with all the traditional seaside fun, there is much to see and do in this much-loved resort. The spectacular Royal Pavilion was transformed in the early 19th century into a handsome villa. Inside you can visit the great rooms used by George IV, Prince Regent, including the banqueting room, great kitchens, royal bedrooms and grand saloon rooms. For the more adventurous you may like to take a ride on the new British Airways i360, as you gently glide up a 450ft tower in the stunning glass viewing pod with views (on a clear day) to the South Downs National Park, and across to the Isle Of Wight

Wednesday - Day 4

Today we pay an exciting visit to the Observatory Science Centre at Herstmonceux (pronounced "Hirstmonzoo") The Centre is an interactive hands-on science centre which has been operating in the former home of The Royal Greenwich Observatory since 1995. Since opening, this unique attraction has gone from strength to strength and now offers Spectacular Science amongst the domes and telescopes of a world famous observatory. It is one of the leading "hands-on" science centres with over 100 exhibits.

Thursday - Day 5

After breakfast it's time to load the coach and to start our journey home, but before we leave Sussex, we make our way to Worthing for a coffee stop and time to explore this delightful seaside town with its World Famous Pier. We then continue to Bognor Regis, affectionately known as England’s “Sunshine Capital” with its promenade, long beach, friendly town and cosy cafes. We then make our early afternoon departure for the West Country to meet up with the feeder coaches who will conclude your journey back home.
