The Isle of Wight may be just a few miles from the mainland, but it is a different world where the pace of life is decidedly slower and has one of the best sunshine records of any part of the UK.  No passport is needed for the short ferry crossing, and once you're on the Island everything is within easy reach.  All along the coast you will find quiet fishing harbours and seaside villages, along with stretches of golden sand and un-spoilt beaches.  Inland you will find an abundance of winding paths, peaceful woods and rolling countryside with breath-taking views wherever you go.

Monday - Day 1

We make our way to Portsmouth for the short ferry crossing to Fishbourne. We then travel to nearby Ryde - the largest town on the Isle of Wight with a large sandy seafront as well as a great selection of boutique shops, galleries and museums. Stroll along the esplanade where you will find plenty of activities to do. We then head to nearby Rosemary’s Vineyard and sample some of their home-made produce, before heading to the Trouville Hotel in Sandown our base for 4 nights

Tuesday - Day 2

We visit the Ventnor Botanical Gardens, basking in the microclimate of The Undercliff – these are one of the great gardens of Britain. We then move onto Shanklin, the Old Village is full of picturesque cottages clustered around the thatched Crab Inn, many of which have become craft and gift shops. Early afternoon we then return to our Sandown where we enjoy the remainder of our day at leisure exploring our host resort.

Wednesday - Day 3

We spend the morning touring the famous Osborne House, Queen Victoria’s island retreat. Highlights of Osborne House include the lavishly furnished State Rooms and glorious grounds and gardens. Then it is onto Carisbrooke Castle s one of the Isle of Wight’s most fascinating attractions. Its long story includes a murdered king, a ghost princess, mysterious Roman foundations, charismatic donkeys, and much, much more.

Thursday - Day 4

We start the day with an interesting stop at the Isle of Wight Pearl Factory, before heading to Alum Bay, famous for its multi coloured sands and breath-taking views of the Needles and lighthouse. Then it is onto Mottistone Gardens, which is in the care of the National Trust, is one of the most peaceful and magical gardens on the Island with colourful borders, shrub filled banks and grassy terraces which surround an Elizabethan manor house (tenanted). The garden has been selected by the Trust to test which plants will adapt to our changing climate.

Friday - Day 5

Time to commence our journey home, however we en-route we visit the Isle of Wight steam railway for a special journey that will take you back in time, as vintage steam locomotives pull Victorian and Edwardian carriages offering a unique view of some of the Island’s unspoilt countryside. We then make our lunch stop in Godshill – a picture postcard village, with its thatched cottages, quaint tea rooms and model village. Then it is onto Yarmouth ahead of the mid-afternoon short ferry crossing back to Lymington, and from there it is homeward bound.
