Morecambe, Wonders of Water

Morecambe, Wonders of Water

Seaside, Steam & Water

Seaside, Steam & Water

From the panoramic golden sands to the Lakeland Hills beyond, Morecambe’s charms go on and on.  There’s a lot to see and do in this historic seaside town.  Jump on an open top bus for a tour, have a coffee or an ice cream in one of the cafes lining the seafront or visit the Eric Morecambe statue, forever brining sunshine to the Promenade!  We return to the Auckland Hotel in Morecambe and  enjoy the lovely scenery of the two National Parks - The Lake District and The Yorkshire Dales. Your tour will also include a steam train ride followed by a cruise on Lake Windermere, a visit to Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal Water Gardens and a day to explore our home resort of Morecambe

Monday - Day 1

Following your home pick up, you will meet up with your fellow passengers and we will head up the motorways to the north west and to Morecambe. Our lunchtime stop will be at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire, then we head on up to the always popular Auckland Hotel located on Morecambe's Central Promenade. From here you can enjoy, from the comfort of the sun lounge, the outstanding setting of Morecambe Bay and its spectacular views over the bay to the Lake District hills, and (weather permitting!) the outstanding sunsets.

Tuesday - Day 2

A leisurely morning as we spend some time at leisure in our host resort of Morecambe. View the bronzed statue of Eric Morecambe, the town’s best-loved export and the many bird sculptures created by the Tern Project. In town, enjoy excellent shopping and the traditional Lancashire welcome and hospitality extended to all visitors. In the afternoon we visit the nearby city of Lancaster. Lancaster is a vibrant university city with a wealth of history beginning its life as a Roman Fort in 80AD. Its cobbled streets are lined with smart stone houses, filled with lively bars, shops and restaurants.

Wednesday - Day 3

Today we visit the spectacular UNESCO World Heritage site of Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal Water Gardens. For centuries people have been drawn to this inspiring place. Green lawns stretch down to the riverside, a perfect spot for a picnic. Riverside paths lead to the deer park, home to Red, Fallow and Sika deer and ancient trees; limes, oaks, and sweet chestnuts. The dramatic abbey ruins at Fountains are the largest monastic ruins in the country. Step back into a rich and dramatic past and imagine what life would have been like for the monks who first came here all those years ago.

Thursday - Day 4

We journey to Haverthwaite where we join the Lakeside and Haverthwaite railway and catch the steam train to Lakeside, offering stunning views of the Leven Valley from its historic carriages. Upon arrival we walk across the pier and take to the water as we take a 40 minute boat cruise to Bowness. After disembarking, you will have time at leisure to explore this popular holiday village, before we continue east across the Lakes and to the pretty Lake District town of Kendal. Kendal is close to the River Kent and is home to a fine selection of shopping arcades, can boast two castles, two museums, a host of historical buildings and bridges, with views that would please the most demanding photographer. Don't forget the Kendal Mint Cake!

Friday - Day 5

After breakfast it is time for us to leave North Lancashire and the Morecambe coast behind as we load up the coach and via the motorways we make our way back down south and home. We head to the Cathedral city of Lichfield for our lunchtime stop. Lichfield is a vibrant and historic city with streets lined with museums, independent shops and mouth-watering restaurants. After lunch, we return to our coach meeting point where we will travel onwards to join up early evening with the feeder coaches that will continue your journey back home.
