Blenheim, Oxford and The Cotswolds

Steeped in history, rich in heritage and awash with natural beauty, the Oxfordshire Cotswolds offers a unique mix of market towns, picturesque villages and also the city of Oxford.  On this short break we indulge ourselves with a visit to the city, as well as Christ Church College, Blenheim Palace, and then take a tour of Cotswold towns and villages.  Explore the delights of Oxford on a guided walking tour, visiting the hidden treasures and famous sights. These include Christopher Wren’s Tom Tower and also the Great Hall.  Visit the Oxfordshire Cotswolds to discover Blenheim Palace, with 2100 acres of beautiful parkland; the birth place of Sir Winston Churchill.

Sunday - Day 1

We travel directly to the centre of Oxford where we meet up with a tour guide for a 1½ hour guided walking tour of the historic city’s most famous sights and hidden treasures.  We go inside the architecturally stunning Christ Church College to see Christopher Wren’s Tom Tower.  Our tour includes the Great Hall, quadrangles, the Cathedral and grand staircase.  And if all of this looks familiar, it’s because it was used as the setting for ‘Hogwarts’ in the Harry Potter films. After the tour there’s free time to explore the city at your own leisure.  We then continue to the Hooiday Inn, Oxford our base for 2 nights.

Monday - Day 2

Today we head out into the Oxfordshire Cotswolds to visit Blenheim Palace.  The 2,100 acres of beautiful parkland were landscaped by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown.  It is the principal residence of the Dukes of Marlborough, and the only non-royal, non-episcopal country house in England to hold the title of palace  In the afternoon we take a circular tour of the Oxfordshire Cotswolds, including the Georgian town of Woodstock, the lively market town of Chipping Norton, and Burford, a pretty medieval town with exclusive shops and galleries.

Tuesday - Day 3

We load up the coach and depart the Holiday Inn and head back into Oxford City Centre allowing you some more time at leisure to explore.  Early afternoon we take to the water as we make our way to Christ Church Meadows for a 2 hour boat trip to the picturesque market town of Abingdon. The journey passes through beautiful countryside with highlights including the Oxford University intercollegiate regatta course and the magnificent Nuneham House.  We then rejoin the coach and continue our journey back to the south west.

About Our Tours

We have been operating tours and mini breaks around the U.K. and abroad for a number of years, and by far the most popular innovation that we have introduced in recent years, is to offer a virtually door to door service. Picking up as near as practically possible to your home in Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire means you don’t have to worry about getting your luggage to the coach, and avoids the additional cost of having to use taxis.

By using our small fleet of mini-buses, we are able to keep the pick-up time to a minimum and get you on your tour coach and on your way as soon as possible. This way your holiday starts on the first morning. Once your holiday is over we will collect you again from the coach park and return you home.
