Cheshire Charms and Llangollen

Cheshire is an area bursting with things to see and do from amazing attractions to beautiful gardens, stunning stately homes to fabulous spa hotels, plus a new celebration of arts and culture, there is something for everyone.  Chester is a classic, contemporary city bursting with must see treasures, 2000 years of history and spectacular shopping.    We stay at the Best Western Forest Hills Hotel, a modern 3 Star hotel in a stunning location.  Situated just off the M56 yet set amidst beautiful Cheshire countryside in the hills above the delightful market town of Frodsham.

Sunday - Day 1

Following your home pick up, join up with the tour coach and we commence our tour north.  Travelling via the motorways we will make suitable comfort and refreshement stops throughout our journey as we head to the Best Western Forest Hills Hotel, a modern 3 Star hotel and our base for 4 nights.

Monday - Day 2

We take a 30 minute cruise on the River Dee.  We travel upstream from The Groves, under the suspension bridge, past Grosvenor Park and the Earl’s Eye, then we’ll follow the long sweep of the Meadows to the city limits before we return you to The Groves.  Commentary will be provided throughout as you take a new view of  Chester City.  The remainder of the day is then free for you to explore the city - discover the cathedral with Europe’s finest example of medieval carvings; the unique 700 year old Rows galleries of shops; the largest Roman Amphitheatre in Britain; the most complete City Walls in Britain.

Tuesday - Day 3

We visit the medieval market town of Nantwich, with its atmospheric streets, medieval timbered buildings, antique and craft shops.  Enjoy a lift and river boat trip at the Anderton Boat Lift, a Victorian masterpiece of waterway engineering built to connect the River Weaver and the Trent and and Mersey Canal.  In the afternoon we travel to Arley Hall, one of the most interesting and attractive stately homes in the North West. The elaborate ceilings and oak panelling, impressive fireplaces, intricate stained glass and beautiful contents are features which make Arley Hall so special.

Wednesday - Day 4

We cross the border into Wales and to the picturesque town of Llangollen with the River Dee running through its heart.  Experience the peace and tranquillity of a horse-drawn canal boat trip along the Llangollen Canal which is now part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  We then have some leisure time for you to enjoy Llangollen’s wealth of independent shops or you could take a stroll along Victoria Promenade.  We conclude our visit to Llangollen with a nostalgic trip back in time through the Dee Valley on the Llangollen Railway.

Thursday - Day 5

We load the coach and depart the hotel but there is still one more attraction to visit as we head to the Wirral Peninsula and the Ness Botanical Gardens.  Here you will find some stunning views across the River Dee to North Wales.  Ness Botanical Gardens was born of one man's passionate interest in plants and his desire to share that with others.  When the Liverpool cotton merchant Arthur Kilpin Bulley began to create a garden in 1898 he laid the foundations of one of the major botanic gardens in the UK.  Early afternoon we then get back aboard the coach and continue our journey south and home.

About Our Tours

We have been operating tours and mini breaks around the U.K. and abroad for a number of years, and by far the most popular innovation that we have introduced in recent years, is to offer a virtually door to door service. Picking up as near as practically possible to your home in Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire means you don’t have to worry about getting your luggage to the coach, and avoids the additional cost of having to use taxis.

By using our small fleet of mini-buses, we are able to keep the pick-up time to a minimum and get you on your tour coach and on your way as soon as possible. This way your holiday starts on the first morning. Once your holiday is over we will collect you again from the coach park and return you home.
