Concorde, Castles and Cambridge

This refined holiday is based in the thirteenth century market town of Huntingdon, birthplace of Oliver Cromwell and custodian of the world’s only museum dedicated to the life and legacy of this enigmatic man. Out and about we visit the university city of Cambridge, explore the Lincolnshire market town of Stamford whilst exploring a Castle, Horseracing Museum and Britain’s best-preserved World War II airfield.

Friday – Day 1

We travel east to the Huntingdon Marriott Hotel in Huntingdon, our base for 3 nights.

Saturday – Day 2

This morning we enjoy a fascinating guided tour of Rockingham Castle – Northamptonshire's hilltop castle which provides nine hundred years of history, 450 years a Royal Castle and 450 years a family home.  Built by William the Conqueror overlooking the Welland Valley and has been the home of the Watson family since 1530.  With splendid rooms, collections of paintings and armour and 12 acres of beautiful gardens there is plenty to see and admire.  Then it is onto the historic market town of Stamford - proclaimed by Sir Walter Scott as “the finest stone town in England”, Stamford was declared a conservation area in 1967 and has over 600 listed buildings of mellow limestone in the town centre including five medieval churches, all real gems.

Sunday – Day 3

This morning we head to Newmarket, where we visit the National Horseracing Heritage Centre, here we explore the National Horseracing Museum, meet retired race horses and view a stunning collection of pictures in the National Art Gallery of sporting Art.   Then it is onto Cambridge – a beautiful city with hundreds of years of history. There is almost no limit to what can be seen and enjoyed, from shopping and eating out, to museums and cultural tours.

Monday – Day 4

Time to commence our journey home, though not before one more fascinating visit as we make our way to the Imperial War Museum Duxford where you have the opportunity to explore a historic airfield famous for its role in the Battle of Britain and discover what it was like to serve at RAF Duxford.  Find out more about aircraft and military vehicles and the role they have played in modern conflict and people’s lives.  Get up close to a Spitfire, marvel at the supersonic Concorde, peer into General Montgomery's wartime caravans and experience the size and scale of the mighty tanks.

About Our Tours

We have been operating tours and mini breaks around the U.K. and abroad for a number of years, and by far the most popular innovation that we have introduced in recent years, is to offer a virtually door to door service. Picking up as near as practically possible to your home in Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire means you don’t have to worry about getting your luggage to the coach, and avoids the additional cost of having to use taxis.

By using our small fleet of mini-buses, we are able to keep the pick-up time to a minimum and get you on your tour coach and on your way as soon as possible. This way your holiday starts on the first morning. Once your holiday is over we will collect you again from the coach park and return you home.
