Highland and Lowland Railways

We continue our series of interesting coach/rail tours around Scotland with a new 3-railway adventure. We start with the much-publicised Borders Railway which runs into Edinburgh's majestic Waverley Station. Continuing into the Highlands we ride a section of one of Scotland's most famous lines, over Rannoch Moor in the shadow of Ben Nevis to Fort William. Our third ride takes us to the south west of Scotland via the Galloway Forest Park and Ayrshire Coast.

Saturday - Day 1

We head via the motorways to the north east for an overnight stay.

Sunday - Day 2

Lovely scenery as we travel through the Northumbria National Park to Tweedmouth. From here we ride Scotland’s newest route, the Borders Line, to Edinburgh.  Free time in Edinburgh before we continue towards the Highlands and to our hotel, the Loch Long Hotel in Arrochar, our base for 2 nights.

Monday - Day 3

Coach journey through the spectacular Pass of Glencoe to Fort William, in the shadow of Britain's highest mountain, Ben Nevis. After free time in the town, board a train at teatime for an evening journey back to Crianlarich, crossing beautiful Rannoch Moor and enjoying lovely views for almost the entire journey.

Tuesday - Day 4

The scenery continues as we travel down Loch Lomond, stopping in the "take the high road" village of Luss. Heading south we journey through Ayrshire to Dumfries & Galloway and the town of Stranraer, arriving mid-afternoon for a couple of hours free time before dinner. The town has an interesting Museum and a "Castle" (Tower), both free to visit (subject to available time).  Then it is onto the Northwest Castle hotel in Stranraer for a 2-night stay.

Wednesday - Day 5

Our final train journey takes us through the attractive local scenery to the Ayrshire coast, where there are pleasant sea views. We travel to the famous golfing resort of Troon with its beautiful beach, then join the coach for a visit to dramatic Culzean Castle before returning to Stranraer.

Thursday - Day 6

Leave Stranraer mid-morning for a journey across beautiful Dumfries & Galloway, with a lunchtime stop in Dumfries, where Robbie Burns spent his final years.  We continue via the Devil’s Porridge Museum to discover the remarkable story of the Greatest Munitions Factory on Earth and the extraordinary lives of the people who lived and worked here. Nestled just 7 miles from the Anglo-Scottish Border, The Devil’s Porridge Museum is dedicated to telling the story of how this once quiet area flourished into a hub of wartime activity.  Then it is onto our overnight hotel in the Borders.

Friday - Day 7

Via the motorways we continue our journey home.

About Our Tours

We have been operating tours and mini breaks around the U.K. and abroad for a number of years, and by far the most popular innovation that we have introduced in recent years, is to offer a virtually door to door service. Picking up as near as practically possible to your home in Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire means you don’t have to worry about getting your luggage to the coach, and avoids the additional cost of having to use taxis.

By using our small fleet of mini-buses, we are able to keep the pick-up time to a minimum and get you on your tour coach and on your way as soon as possible. This way your holiday starts on the first morning. Once your holiday is over we will collect you again from the coach park and return you home.
