Isle of Man - Magic of the Manx

Blessed with extensive scenic coastlines, stunning natural landscapes and unspoilt beaches, the Isle of Man has something to appeal to everyone - only a short ferry crossing from the British mainland but with a character that sets it apart.  The island is a unique self-governing Kingdom, a crown dependency which belongs to neither the UK nor the European Union.  It has its own parliament, laws, traditions culture, cuisine and postage stamps.

Thursday - Day 1

We depart Somerset and via the motorways travel north to the Holiday Inn at Lancaster for an overnight stay.

Friday - Day 2

We continue our journey to the Port of Heysham ahead of the early afternoon crossing to Douglas and the Isle of Man.  Once on the island we make the very short journey to the Chesterhouse Hotel on the Douglas seafront – our base for 4 nights.

Saturday - Day 3

We join the Isle of Man steam railway in Douglas and head to Port Erin, a peaceful town with pretty gardens and a sandy beach that was first favoured by Victorian holidaymakers. We then journey back in time to the fascinating living museum of Cregneash Folk Village, where residents continue to use horsepower and speak the old local dialect. Then, it’s onto the ancient capital of Castletown and the wonderfully preserved Castle Rushen.  Nearby are the wonderful views around Calf Sound.

Sunday - Day 4

Spend a full free day at leisure in Douglas or the chance to make use of your rover tickets which allow you to travel on all of the railways on the Island.   We catch the Manx electric tram to Laxey where you can walk to and view Lady Isabella – the world’s largest working waterwheel and perhaps the best-known image of the island.  We then join the Snaefell Mountain Railway, where electric powered trains take passengers over 2,000 feet up to the summit of Snaefell, the islands highest point.  From the summit you can see seven kingdoms those of England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, the Kingdom of Man, the Kingdom of God and the Kingdom of Neptune.  We travel back down the mountain and via the Manx tram make our way back to Douglas for the remainder of the day at leisure.

Monday - Day 5

Follow the Isle of Man’s famous TT course as we first stop at ‘Royal’ Ramsey before we head across the island to Peel.  Sitting grandly at the mouth of the harbour is an attractive resort complete with castle, flat sandy beach harbour, heritage centre and smoked kipper factory!  We visit the House of Mannahan, where you will take a journey from past to present you’ll also come face to face with characters telling you stories and superstitions from the Island’s past, complete with atmospheric sounds, sights and smells that will allow you to immerse yourself in the Island's vibrant history.

Tuesday - Day 6

An early start today as we catch the morning ferry from Douglas back across to Heysham.  We then make our way to Lancaster for some time at leisure before we return to the Holiday Inn Lancaster for a final overnight stop.

Wednesday - Day 7

We depart the hotel and via the motorways conclude our journey back home.

Hotel Information

We spend the first and last nights of our tour at the Holiday Inn at Lancaster – this modern 3-star hotel has en-suite bedrooms all equipped with a flat screen television, tea/coffee making facilities, and telephone.  When we are on the Isle of Man we stay at the 3-star Chesterhouse Hotel, located on the seafront in Douglas.  All en-suite bedrooms offer a full range of modern facilities including tea / coffee making facilities, television, radio and hairdryer.  The hotel has a lift.  The hotel is close to the town centre which offers extensive shopping, and a variety of bars and restaurants.  The Shiraz restaurant has panoramic views of the bay and the comfortable Amber Lounge offers a relaxing area at the end of a day’s touring.

About Our Tours

We have been operating tours and mini breaks around the U.K. and abroad for a number of years, and by far the most popular innovation that we have introduced in recent years, is to offer a virtually door to door service. Picking up as near as practically possible to your home in Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire means you don’t have to worry about getting your luggage to the coach, and avoids the additional cost of having to use taxis.

By using our small fleet of mini-buses, we are able to keep the pick-up time to a minimum and get you on your tour coach and on your way as soon as possible. This way your holiday starts on the first morning. Once your holiday is over we will collect you again from the coach park and return you home.
