Kynren - An Epic Tale of England and County Durham

Kynren is the UK's 'must see' spectacular live action outdoor theatre show.  Proudly presented by Eleven Arches on a vast open air stage with a huge lake at its centre.  It hides a host of surpises and you will meet many of the characters and events that have shaped the north east and the country as a whole.   In the 29 scenes there are various sets encompassing the Roman occupation to World War II which unfold in front of your eyes.  There is a cast and crew of 1,000, performing alongside the animals of 'Kynren'.

Thursday - Day 1

Following your home pick up, join up with the tour coach and we commence our tour north.  Travelling via the motorways we will make suitable comfort and refreshement stops throughout our journey as we head to County Durham and to the Mercure Darlington Kings Hotel, our base for 5 nights.   This four star hotel sits in the heart of Darlington, looking out over the Pease statue and Market Square and is arguably one of the town’s most iconic buildings dating back to Victorian times.  The hotel was completely rebuilt andf refurbished in 2012 following a devistating fire.

Friday - Day 2

We begin the day with a visit to Hartlepool and to the National Museum of the Royal Navy, set in an authentically-created historic quayside of the 1800's.  Experience Fighting Ships - a powerful insight into the tough lives of sailors.  Feel the firepower of guns from the era, with live demonstrations and re-enactments taking place around the quayside.  Our afternoon visit takes us to the Captain Cook Birthplace Museum, which tells the story of one of the world’s greatest navigators and mariners through themed display galleries, temporary exhibitions, associated activities and events.

Saturday - Day 3

This morning you have time at leisure to explore our host resort of Darlington.  We then head to Alston for a journey on the South Tyneside Railway to Slaggyford.  We return to the hotel for our evening meal before we head to Bishop Auckland for Kynren - the UK's 'must see' spectacular live action outdoor theatre show.  Be swept along by a thrilling, family-friendly journey, 2000 years in the making: dazzling pyrotechnics, beautiful choreography, amazing stunts and hard-to-believe horsemanship combine with an inspired, original soundtrack to leave audiences and critics enraptured and awestruck.

Sunday - Day 4

Today we spend a full day at leisure in the beautiful city of Durham.  With its winding cobbled streets and a prominent peninsula crowned with the dramatic Durham Cathedral and Castle World Heritage Site – one of the most stunning city panoramas in Europe and now home to Open Treasure, the Cathedral’s world-class exhibition experience.  Explore the timeless quality of this quintessential old English University City, take some time out with a relaxing riverside walk or river cruise, or soak up the atmosphere with superb cafés, artisan workshops, boutiques, galleries and museums.

Monday - Day 5

We meet up with a Blue Badge Tour Guide and embark on a full day excursion touring through the delightful Durham Dales.  Incorporating Teesdale and Weardale the Durham Dales are a peaceful and tranquil landscape of moors and hills, valleys and meandering rivers, dotted with picturesque villages and market towns that form part of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.  We also visit Stanhope, home of the Durham Dales Centre, a unique venue with a range of attractions such as a tearoom, gift shops and speciality craft shops and gardens.

Tuesday - Day 6

After breakfast it is time for us to leave the North East behind as we load up the coach and via the motorways we make our way back down south and home.  We will make suitable comfort and refreshment stops en-route heading back to our coach meeting point where we will join up early evening with the feeder coaches that will continue your journey back home.

About Our Tours

We have been operating tours and mini breaks around the U.K. and abroad for a number of years, and by far the most popular innovation that we have introduced in recent years, is to offer a virtually door to door service. Picking up as near as practically possible to your home in Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire means you don’t have to worry about getting your luggage to the coach, and avoids the additional cost of having to use taxis.

By using our small fleet of mini-buses, we are able to keep the pick-up time to a minimum and get you on your tour coach and on your way as soon as possible. This way your holiday starts on the first morning. Once your holiday is over we will collect you again from the coach park and return you home.
