Lakes and Dales

From the panoramic golden sands to the Lakeland Hills beyond, Morecambe’s charms go on and on.  There’s a lot to see and do in this historic seaside town.  Jump on an open top bus for a tour, have a coffee or an ice cream in one of the cafes lining the seafront or visit the Eric Morecambe statue, forever brining sunshine to the Promenade!  We return to the Auckland Hotel in Morecambe and as well as Morecambe enjoy the lovely scenery of these two National Parks.

Sunday – Day 1

We travel via the motorways north to the Auckland Hotel in Morecambe, our base for 5 nights.

Day 2

A leisurely morning as we spend some time at leisure in our host resort of Morecambe.  View the bronzed statue of Eric Morecambe, the town’s best-loved export and the many bird sculptures created by the Tern Project.  In town, enjoy excellent shopping and the traditional Lancashire welcome and hospitality extended to all visitors.  In the afternoon we visit the nearby city of Lancaster.  Lancaster is a vibrant university city with a wealth of history beginning its life as a Roman Fort in 80AD.  Its cobbled streets are lined with smart stone houses, filled with lively bars, shops and restaurants.

Day 3
We head into the Lake District where today we will take to the water and travel on two of the famous lakes that make up this picturesque part of the world.  Initially it’s Lake Windermere as we travel from Lakeside to Bowness-on-Windermere.  Here we have some time at leisure before heading to Keswick where we head on to Lake Derwentwater for a 50-minute circular cruise around the Lake.

Day 4

We make our way to Skipton – the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales, where on Wednesday it is Market day.  Skipton Market is unique, its history dates back to medieval times, when a royal charter granted consent to The Lord of the Honour of Skipton Castle to hold a fair on Skipton High Street. This consent still holds true today - and the current owner of Skipton Castle grants the rights to hold the market on four days each week.  In the afternoon we head to Settle were we join the Northern Rail train service to Carlisle.  We take in the breathtaking Yorkshire Dales, the Pennines and Cumbria’s pretty Eden Valley before reaching the border city of Carlisle.  Here our coach will meet us and return us back to the hotel.

Day 5

We head down the coast to spend the day at leisure in the classic Victorian seaside resort of Southport.  With beautiful sandy beaches and a Grade II listed iron pier the second longest in the country.  Take a visit to King’s Gardens in the centre of the town with its Victorian shelters, Venetian bridge and Lakeside café.

Day 6

Via the motorways we make our return journey back south.

About Our Tours

We have been operating tours and mini breaks around the U.K. and abroad for a number of years, and by far the most popular innovation that we have introduced in recent years, is to offer a virtually door to door service. Picking up as near as practically possible to your home in Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire means you don’t have to worry about getting your luggage to the coach, and avoids the additional cost of having to use taxis.

By using our small fleet of mini-buses, we are able to keep the pick-up time to a minimum and get you on your tour coach and on your way as soon as possible. This way your holiday starts on the first morning. Once your holiday is over we will collect you again from the coach park and return you home.
