Memories of War Time Britain

Based at the Marriott Hotel Huntingdon this tour allows you to experience some of the most important locations of Wartime Britain. Learn the secrets of Britain’s code breakers at Bletchley Park, discover the military talents of the extraordinary soldier and statesman, the Duke of Marlborough at Blenheim Palace, birthplace of Winston Churchill and see the remarkable aircraft collection at RAF Duxford, a branch of the Imperial War Museum. There will also be plenty of time for shopping and sightseeing in the university towns of Oxford and Cambridge.

Friday – Day 1

Your home pick up will take you to the coach meeting point where we commence our journey to The Marriott Hotel Huntingdon. En-route we will break our journey in Oxford, to the ‘City of Dreaming Spires’ steeped in a rich and fascinating history. For stunning English heritage in a pretty setting, you can’t beat Oxford. Wander the world-famous university campus, admiring the historic buildings which date back to the 13th century, an inspiration to generations of scholars including President Bill Clinton, and the authors J R R Tolkien, Lewis Carroll and C S Lewis.

Saturday – Day 2

We stop off at the only permanent American World War II Cemetery in the UK, Madingley, a peaceful tranquil haven for thousands of brave American servicemen buried here whose names are listed on the Tablets of the Missing, guarded by four giant statues. Then some time at leisure to explore Cambridge, before we head to the Imperial War Museum Duxford to explore a historic airfield famous for its role in the Battle of Britain and discover what it was like to serve there. Find out about aircraft and military vehicles – get up close to a Spitfire, see supersonic Concorde.

Sunday - Day 3

We head towards Milton Keynes and to Bletchley Park where Alan Turing and his colleagues helped crack Germany’s Enigma Code during World War II. We uncover Bletchley Park’s remarkable story by visiting the unglamorous, functional Codebreaking Huts and Blocks, Alan Turing’s office, the Library, the wartime garages (complete with WW2 vehicles) and a series of fascinating interactive exhibits before enjoying lunch (not included) in Hut 4 (formerly home to WW2 Naval Intelligence Code Breaking Operations).

Monday – Day 4

After a leisurely breakfast it is time for us to pack our bags and leave Cambridgeshire behind. We commence our journey home, however with one more interesting attraction for you to explore - the magnificent Blenheim Palace, monumental 18th century home of the Dukes of Marlborough and birthplace of Winston Churchill. It is a National Treasure surrounded by romantic landscaped parks and gardens. We then re-joing the coach and conclude our journey west, joining up with the feeder vehicles who will then conclude your journey back home.

About Our Tours

We have been operating tours and mini breaks around the U.K. and abroad for a number of years, and by far the most popular innovation that we have introduced in recent years, is to offer a virtually door to door service. Picking up as near as practically possible to your home in Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire means you don’t have to worry about getting your luggage to the coach, and avoids the additional cost of having to use taxis.

By using our small fleet of mini-buses, we are able to keep the pick-up time to a minimum and get you on your tour coach and on your way as soon as possible. This way your holiday starts on the first morning. Once your holiday is over we will collect you again from the coach park and return you home.
