Portsmouth, Chichester & Arundel

Tour this pretty region of the south coast where Sussex meets Hampshire. Enjoy exploring the city of Portsmouth from the land and from the water - a city with a huge maritime heritage, huge docks plus the iconic Spinaker Tower standing tall. We also spend time visiting the the historic city of Chichester, before a chance to visit the imposing Arundel Castle commanding the landscape of West Sussex. We also visit 2 living history museums (Weald and Downland and Milestones), one where the television series 'Tudor Farm' was filmed.

Sunday - Day 1

After your home pick-up you will meet up with your fellow travellers and we commence our tour to the south coach and to Portsmouth. We will make suitable comfort stops during the journey as we travel via the New Forest and then Southampton to our final destination for the day - the Holiday Inn Portsmouth, a modern hotel with a restaurant, close to city-centre shops, historic landmarks and a bustling port. We spend 4 nights here and the hotel is just minutes away from the city centre and the waterfront.

Monday - Day 2

We head to the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum where you can explore a fascinating collection of rescued rural buildings set in a beautiful 40-acre site within the South Downs National Park. Discover the stories of the people who lived and worked in them over a 1,000-year period from Anglo-Saxon to Edwardian times. Homes and historic gardens, farm animals and farming heritage, crafts and trade workshops, beautiful woodland, pasture and wildflower meadows. We then head to Chichester for the afternoon, one of the great well-preserved Georgian cities in the UK.

Tuesday - Day 3

We take to the Solent for a 45 minute harbour cruise for the best views of Portsmouth Naval Base and the frigates, destroyers and helicopter carriers that are docked within. You'll see the Roman grounds of Portchester Castle, Gosport with its beautiful marinas, and buildings inside Portsmouth Naval Base that you wouldn't be able to see on land. We then visit the Historic Dockyard - explore historic ships, including Lord Nelson’s world famous flagship HMS Victory, Queen Victoria’s HMS Warrior 1860 and the only surviving ship from the First World War’s Gallipoli Campaign, HMS M.33.

Wednesday - Day 4

Set high on a hill in West Sussex, Arundel Castle commands the landscape with magnificent views across the South Downs and the River Arun. Originally built in 1067 many of the original features such as the Norman Keep, medieval Gatehouse and Barbican survive. Between the 1870s and 1890s the house was almost completely rebuilt and the magnificent architecture in Gothic style is considered to be one of the great works of Victorian England. Stroll through the tranquil grounds where you will discover inspiring gardens. The remainder of the day is then in the town of Arundel.

Thursday – Day 5

Time to load the coach and commence the journey home. We initally travel to Basingstoke and to the Milestones Museum. Step inside the story of Hampshire’s social, retail and industrial heritage and imagine what life would have been like during the Victorian era and the 1930s as you explore the life size streets, buildings, shops and vehicles. Be inspired by wonderful collections from vehicles, toys, domestic appliances and lots more. See how homes developed through the decades from 1930s to 1970s with authentic room-sets. We re-board the coach and conclude our journey home.

About Our Tours

We have been operating tours and mini breaks around the U.K. and abroad for a number of years, and by far the most popular innovation that we have introduced in recent years, is to offer a virtually door to door service. Picking up as near as practically possible to your home in Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire means you don’t have to worry about getting your luggage to the coach, and avoids the additional cost of having to use taxis.

By using our small fleet of mini-buses, we are able to keep the pick-up time to a minimum and get you on your tour coach and on your way as soon as possible. This way your holiday starts on the first morning. Once your holiday is over we will collect you again from the coach park and return you home.
