Rails, Sails and Secret Garden's in Ireland

Our new Irish tour brings you Ireland's South Coast in all its glory with a scenic train ride to the re-discovered gardens at Mount Congreve, Regency elegance at Fota House, the heritage harbour towns of Cobh and Kinsale and much more.

Sunday – Day 1

We cross the Severn Bridge and travel through South Wales to Pembroke for our ferry crossing to Rosslare.  We then head to the Maldron Hotel on the outskirts of Wexford for an overnight stay.

Monday – Day 2

All aboard the Waterford and Suir Valley Railway for a journey along the banks of the River Suir.  Then we arrive at Mount Congreve Gardens where pathways lead through 70 acres of planted woodland gardens including a delightful walled garden. It is one of the largest private collections in the world, developed over many years. Then we continue to The Middleton Park Hotel, our base for 4 nights.

Tuesday – Day 3

We start today with a visit to Fota House - surrounded by its own arboretum and with grounds that boast a beautiful orangery and formal walled gardens. Then it is on to Cobh, a tiny fishing village with a big history, made famous as the last port of call for RMS Titanic before she sailed away on that fateful maiden voyage in April 1912.   There’s a fascinating heritage trail and an award winning exhibition depicting the story of Titanic (not included) as well as the history of mass emigration undergone by over 6 million Irish men, women and children from this humble harbour.

Wednesday – Day 4

Enjoy the spectacular and varied scenery of the Gulf Stream Coast, sculptured by the Ice Age and lapped by the warm waters of the Gulf Stream. We have stops at Kinsale, Ireland’s ‘gourmet capital’ and a popular centre for sailing overlooked by historic Charles Fort, Clonakilty, renowned for its delicious black pudding, music pubs and hand painted Irish signs, and Skibbereen.

Thursday - Day 5

We travel via Youghal to Dungarvan, and then take a scenic drive along the Copper Coast, a protected Geo Park providing spectacular ocean views as you travel to Tramore, a popular seaside resort with miles of sandy beaches. There is then free time in Waterford, the oldest city in Ireland, founded by the Vikings and home to the world famous Crystal Factory and the absorbing Museum of Treasures, before heading on to Wexford for a final overnight stay.

Friday – Day 6

We take the early morning ferry crossing back across to South Wales, and from there we continue homeward bound.

About Our Tours

We have been operating tours and mini breaks around the U.K. and abroad for a number of years, and by far the most popular innovation that we have introduced in recent years, is to offer a virtually door to door service. Picking up as near as practically possible to your home in Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire means you don’t have to worry about getting your luggage to the coach, and avoids the additional cost of having to use taxis.

By using our small fleet of mini-buses, we are able to keep the pick-up time to a minimum and get you on your tour coach and on your way as soon as possible. This way your holiday starts on the first morning. Once your holiday is over we will collect you again from the coach park and return you home.
