The Dutch Bulbfields and Highlights of Holland

Holland is known as the land of flowers, famous for its tulips that blossom in an explosion of colour each year.  A springtime visit to the Dutch Bulbfields is always worthwhile, we include a trip to the ever popular Keukenhof which is one of the world’s largest flower gardens with over 7 million flower bulbs in bloom.

Sunday – Day 1

We head east initially to The Shuttleworth Collection and Swiss Garden, located in a quiet countryside setting, actually on an old fashioned all grass aerodrome with 8 real hangars!  These handsome hangars comprise an aero plane engineering workshop, a garage and coach room, and the remainder house the world famous collection of aircraft.  We continue to the ferry terminal in Harwich for the overnight ferry crossing to Hook of Holland.  En-route we will make a stop for our evening meal at a local restaurant.

Monday – Day 2

We disembark the ferry and travel to the picture postcard city of Delft, famous for its porcelain.   Then it is onto Madurodam model village.  Maudurodam is a miniature park and tourist attraction. It is home to a range of 1:25 scale model replicas of famous Dutch landmarks, historical cities and large developments). Then, it is on to the De Rijper Hotel Eilanden, our base for 3 nights.

Tuesday – Day 3

We travel through the bulb field region to Keukenhof Gardens.  There will be time to explore and marvel at the vast array of flowers, not forgetting you can order bulbs to be sent to you at time of planting to make your garden at home the envy of the neighbours!  More than 7 million tulips, daffodils and hyacinths create a spectacular display in the so called Garden of Europe.  Then it is onto Zaanse Schans, a living and working community that dates back to the 18th and 19th centuries. Watch traditional crafts such as clog and cheese making or visit the windmills and traditional buildings. Local charges apply for some attractions.

Wednesday – Day 4

We visit Volendam, once a busy harbour specializing in the herring trade, Volendam is now a perfect example of traditional Holland where many locals still wear National costume.  No visit would be complete without a visit to the Alidahoeve cheese and clog factory.  Then onto the cosmopolitan city of Amsterdam.  The rest of the day is free to explore the city at your own leisure.

Thursday – Day 5

We depart the hotel and travel via the windmills of Kinderdijk to Antwerp, a cosmopolitan place with fashionable shops, museums and plenty of greenery.  Then it is onto ??? Hotel in Ghent for an overnight stay.

Friday – Day 6

Following a hearty breakfast, we have the chance to explore Ghent before we travel back to Calais for the short Channel Tunnel crossing to Folkestone and from there via the motorways back to the South West.

About Our Tours

We have been operating tours and mini breaks around the U.K. and abroad for a number of years, and by far the most popular innovation that we have introduced in recent years, is to offer a virtually door to door service. Picking up as near as practically possible to your home in Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire means you don’t have to worry about getting your luggage to the coach, and avoids the additional cost of having to use taxis.

By using our small fleet of mini-buses, we are able to keep the pick-up time to a minimum and get you on your tour coach and on your way as soon as possible. This way your holiday starts on the first morning. Once your holiday is over we will collect you again from the coach park and return you home.
