The Isle of Wight

The Isle of Wight may be just a few miles from the mainland, but it is a different world where the pace of life is decidedly slower and has one of the best sunshine records of any part of the UK.  No passport is needed for the short ferry crossing, and once you're on the Island everything is within easy reach.  All along the coast you will find quiet fishing harbours and seaside villages, along with stretches of golden sand and un-spoilt beaches.  Inland you will find an abundance of winding paths, peaceful woods and rolling countryside with breath-taking views wherever you go.

Monday - Day 1

We make our way to Portsmouth for the short ferry crossing to Fishbourne and the Isle of Wight  We then travel to nearby the nearby town of Ryde for the first stop of the tour.  Ryde is the largest town on the Island with a large sandy seafront as well as a great selection of boutique shops, galleries and museums.  Stroll along the esplanade where you will find plenty of things to do.  We then head to nearby Rosemary’s Vineyard and enjoy a tasting session of some of their their home-made produce, before we continue to the Trouville Hotel set on Sandown's seafront and our base for 4 nights.

Tuesday - Day 2

We visit the Ventnor Botanical Gardens which basks in the microclimate of The Undercliff.  With a subtropical and exotic plant collection that is unrivalled, plants that should be found in protective glasshouses thrive and naturalise out of doors thanks to the mild climate and sheltered setting.  We then move onto Shanklin, the Old Village is full of picturesque cottages clustered around the thatched Crab Inn, many of which have become craft and gift shops.  Early afternoon we return back to our host resort of Sandown for some time at leisure.

Wednesday - Day 3

We visit Osborne House which was the palatial holiday home on the Isle of Wight of Queen Victoria.  Visit Victoria and Albert's private apartments, their bathing beach and children's play-cottage for an intimate glimpse of royal family life.  Then stroll through the garden terraces where the stunning views across the Solent reminded Prince Albert of the Bay of Naples.  Ornate furnishings and artefacts from The Royal Collection fill rooms and corridors where Victoria entertained heads of state, inventors, princess and princesses and ruled the vast British Empire.

Thursday - Day 4

We start the day with an interesting stop at the Isle of Wight Pearl Factory, before heading to Alum Bay, famous for its multi coloured sands and breath-taking views of the Needles and lighthouse.  Then it is onto Mottistone Gardens, which is in the care of the National Trust, is one of the most peaceful and magical gardens on the Island with colourful borders, shrub filled banks and grassy terraces which surround an Elizabethan manor house (tenanted). The garden has been selected by the Trust to test which plants will adapt to our changing climate.

Friday - Day 5

Time to commence our journey home, however we en-route we visit the Isle of Wight steam railway for a special journey that will take you back in time, as vintage steam locomotives pull Victorian and Edwardian carriages offering a unique view of some of the Island’s unspoilt countryside.  We then make our lunch stop in Godshill – a picture postcard village, with its thatched cottages, quaint tea rooms and model village.  Then it is onto Yarmouth ahead of the mid-afternoon short ferry crossing back to Lymington, and from there it is homeward bound.

About Our Tours

We have been operating tours and mini breaks around the U.K. and abroad for a number of years, and by far the most popular innovation that we have introduced in recent years, is to offer a virtually door to door service. Picking up as near as practically possible to your home in Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire means you don’t have to worry about getting your luggage to the coach, and avoids the additional cost of having to use taxis.

By using our small fleet of mini-buses, we are able to keep the pick-up time to a minimum and get you on your tour coach and on your way as soon as possible. This way your holiday starts on the first morning. Once your holiday is over we will collect you again from the coach park and return you home.
