The Lakes And Dales

From the panoramic golden sands to the Lakeland Hills beyond, Morecambe’s charms go on and on.  There’s a lot to see and do in this historic seaside town.  Jump on an open top bus for a tour, have a coffee or an ice cream in one of the cafes lining the seafront or visit the Eric Morecambe statue, forever brining sunshine to the Promenade!  We return to the Auckland Hotel in Morecambe and as well as Morecambe enjoy the lovely scenery of the two National Parks - The Lake District and The Yorkshire Dales.

Sunday - Day 1

Following your home pick up, you will meet up with your fellow passengers and we will head up the motorways to the north west and to Morecambe.  During the journey we will provide suitable comfort and refreshment stops en-route as we head back to the always popular Auckland Hotel located on Morecambe's Central Promenade.   From here you can enjoy from the comfort of the sun lounge the outstanding setting of Morecambe Bay and its spectacular views over the bay to the Lake District hills, and (weather permitting!) the outstanding sunsets.

Monday - Day 2

We visit Levens Hall, a magnificent Elizabethan mansion built around a 13th Century pele tower, which was expanded and rebuilt towards the end of the 16th Century.  It contains a collection of Jacobean furniture, fine paintings, the earliest English patchwork and many other beautiful objects.  The award winning gardens were laid out in 1694. The topiary, beech hedges and colourful seasonal beds create a stunning visual impact.  The topiary garden has over 100 specimens including huge abstract shapes, pyramids and columns reminiscent of monstrous chess men.  In the afternoon we head to the market town of Kendal.

Tuesday - Day 3

A leisurely morning as we spend some time at leisure in our host resort of Morecambe.  View the bronzed statue of Eric Morecambe, the town’s best-loved export and the many bird sculptures created by the Tern Project.  In town, enjoy excellent shopping and the traditional Lancashire welcome and hospitality extended to all visitors.  In the afternoon we visit the nearby city of Lancaster.  Lancaster is a vibrant university city with a wealth of history beginning its life as a Roman Fort in 80AD.  Its cobbled streets are lined with smart stone houses, filled with lively bars, shops and restaurants.

Wednesday - Day 4

We make our way to the market town of Skipton, situated in the Aire Gap and on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park - it is centred on its castle and market square and offers a High Street full of quirky shops and craftsmen’s workshops.  Wednesday is market day, set on both sides of the High Street you will be sure to find something for you.  In the afternoon we head to Settle where we join the Northern Rail service to Appleby taking in some of the breathtaking scenery of the Yorkshire Dales, notable tunnels and viaducts such as the imposing Ribblehead.

Thursday - Day 5

Coniston Water is the fifth largest of the lakes, at five miles long, and with a maximum depth of 184 feet. It was used to transport slate and ore from the many mines worked in the Coppermines Valley above Coniston village. It has three small islands, all owned by the National Trust.  We take a one hour cruise taking in all of the sights and sounds the lake has to offer.  We head to Bowness on Windermere for a lunch stop, before taking to the water again as we cruise the bottom half of Lake Windermere to Lakeside, where we rejoin the coach and head back to the hotel.

Friday - Day 6

After breakfast it is time for us to leave North Lancashire and the Morecambe coast behind as we load up the coach and via the motorways we make our way back down south and home.  We will make suitable comfort and refreshment stops en-route heading back to our coach meeting point where we will join up early evening with the feeder coaches that will continue your journey back home.

About Our Tours

We have been operating tours and mini breaks around the U.K. and abroad for a number of years, and by far the most popular innovation that we have introduced in recent years, is to offer a virtually door to door service. Picking up as near as practically possible to your home in Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire means you don’t have to worry about getting your luggage to the coach, and avoids the additional cost of having to use taxis.

By using our small fleet of mini-buses, we are able to keep the pick-up time to a minimum and get you on your tour coach and on your way as soon as possible. This way your holiday starts on the first morning. Once your holiday is over we will collect you again from the coach park and return you home.
