The Pick of the Peak District

A region of contrasting natural beauty, with moors, dales, rivers, caverns, market towns, villages and historic houses. We bring together the best the region has to offer with visits to Chatsworth, Crich,  Lyme Park, and the picturesque village of Castleton home to the ‘Blue John’ stone. The tour will also allow you to explore the market town of Bakewell, where you can indulge in the Bakewell pudding that the town is famous for, and the spa towns of Buxton and Matlock Bath. We also visit Cromford Mills, the centrepiece of the Derwent Valley Mills UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Monday - Day 1

We board our coach and commence the journey north, initally to the Staffordshire city of Lichfield where the streets are lined with museums, independent shops, mouth-watering restaurants and cafes - a good place for you to find a spot of lunch. We then head to picturesque Ashbourne, known as 'The Gateway to Dovedale'. With more than 200 listed buildings - including historic almshouses, fine coaching inns and genteel town houses - it's a visual feast for the discerning visitor. Then it is on to the 4-star Shrigley Hall Hotel, our base for 4 nights.

Tuesday - Day 2

We head to Chatsworth House, Derbyshire's best-loved stately home set in the heart of the Peak District National Park. The house has over 30 rooms to explore, from the magnificent Painted Hall, to the family-used chapel, regal State Rooms, newly restored Sketch Galleries and beautiful Sculpture Gallery. We then head to the traditional market town of Bakewell. Idyllically situated on the banks of the river Wye, mellow stone buildings, medieval a five-arched stone bridge and quaint courtyards are a magnet for painters, photographers and sightseers alike.

Wednesday - Day 3

We visit Crich Tramway Village, a lovingly restored period village that's also home to the National Tramway Museum. Exhibitions bring to life the history of the tram and visitors can ride on the restored tramways. It is then to Cromford Mills the centrepiece of the Derwent Valley Mills UNESCO World Heritage Site. Developed in 1771 Cromford Mill itself was the first water-powered cotton spinning mill and the cradle of the Industrial Revolution. Our final stop of the day is Matlock Bath, a popular town that sits in the scenic gorge of the River Derwent.

Thursday - Day 4

Nestling on the edge of the Peak District is Lyme Park House and Garden where we make the first visit of the day. Step back in time to the Edwardian age - Lyme's 'Golden Era'. Enjoy the house with its lavish interiors, the beautiful gardens and enchanting lake where a certain Mr Darcy appeared in the BBC's production of Pride and Prejudice. We re-join the coach and take a leisurely drive along Snake Pass through the heart of the Peak District to Castletonone of the prettiest villages of the Peak District. We then return back to the hotel for a gala dinner.

Friday - Day 5

We begin our journey home, however there is still one more town to explore - Buxton, which has welcomed visitors to enjoy its natural thermal springs and superb setting 300 metres above sea level since Roman times. There's much more to the highest market town in England than its most famous brand, Buxton is deservedly renowned for its Georgian and Victorian architecture - much of it linked with the 5th Duke of Devonshire's ambitions to create a spa town to rival Bath back in the 18th century. We then continue our south bound journey home.

About Our Tours

We have been operating tours and mini breaks around the U.K. and abroad for a number of years, and by far the most popular innovation that we have introduced in recent years, is to offer a virtually door to door service. Picking up as near as practically possible to your home in Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire means you don’t have to worry about getting your luggage to the coach, and avoids the additional cost of having to use taxis.

By using our small fleet of mini-buses, we are able to keep the pick-up time to a minimum and get you on your tour coach and on your way as soon as possible. This way your holiday starts on the first morning. Once your holiday is over we will collect you again from the coach park and return you home.
