Cash On Your Mantlepiece

This long weekend break is fun for everybody, whether or not you have a specific interest in antiques.   Based on the TV show concept where people are encouraged to hunt for bargains – whilst there is a prize for the winner.  Everyone is also encouraged to bring along a small trinket which will be discussed at the hotel by a knowledgeable antiques host. Then it’s out to a local collector’s fair with cash in hand to have fun seeing who bags the best bargain or the most interesting item.

We travel via Cheltenham and then Gloucester (where there is an excellent antiques centre) for you to explore before we continue to Worcester and the Fownes hotel for a three-night stay. Meet your Antiques host after dinner, when during a fun session the small items you have brought from home can be discussed. You will also receive £10 for you to spend at the collectors fair on Sunday and try and find your piece of treasure!

Today we take an excursion into Warwickshire visiting the popular town of Stratford upon Avon, synonymous with William Shakespeare.  Walk in Shakespeare’s footsteps at the house where he was born and grew up and then head off on the self-guided heritage tour.  His influence is everywhere and there are also cafes shops and riverside gardens to enjoy.  In the afternoon, we then board the Countess of Evesham for an inclusive gentle relaxing cruise and cream tea on the River Avon.

We visit Malvern Antiques and Collectors Fair in a beautiful setting overlooked by the Malvern Hills, where you as intrepid bargain hunters will browse the fair and search for the best bargain, or the most interesting item you can find.  We return to the hotel and after dinner these items will be presented to the group and the Antiques Host will declare whether it is treasure or trash!!  A prize will be awarded for the day’s most interesting purchase.

After a final leisurely breakfast, free time will be given in Worcester, a beautiful Cathedral and university city with a fascinating history of industry, a wealth of interesting architecture, an unrivalled selection of high street names and independent boutiques. You may wish to visit the Museum of Royal Worcester which has collections dating back to 1751.  We then re-join our coach and head for home.

About Our Tours

We have been operating tours and mini breaks around the U.K. and abroad for a number of years, and by far the most popular innovation that we have introduced in recent years, is to offer a virtually door to door service. Picking up as near as practically possible to your home in Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire means you don’t have to worry about getting your luggage to the coach, and avoids the additional cost of having to use taxis.

By using our small fleet of mini-buses, we are able to keep the pick-up time to a minimum and get you on your tour coach and on your way as soon as possible. This way your holiday starts on the first morning. Once your holiday is over we will collect you again from the coach park and return you home.
