Scenes of Shropshire

Shropshire must surely be one of England’s hidden gems lying on the border with Wales and set on a backcloth of patchwork fields, wooded valleys, picturesque rivers and rolling hills leading in to the Welsh Marches. Unspoilt countryside, lovely medieval towns and a remarkable heritage are all there to be enjoyed. From a country house hotel base, 'step back in time’ and catch a glimpse of England and Wales in times gone by.

We travel to the county of Shropshire, stopping first at the Wroxeter Roman City  where we delve into what life was like in England’s fourth largest city.  Then it is on to the Buckatree Hall Hotel, set in a peaceful location near to Telford, where we will stay for 4 nights.

We make the short journey into historic Shrewsbury, built on a loop of the River Severn.  The city centre is a delight to wander around.  After a free morning at leisure we then take to the water and enjoy a 45-minute boat cruise.  We depart from Victoria Quay near the Welsh Bridge and gently sail to the English Bridge before turning for the return journey.  Enjoy beautiful views and photo opportunities and listen to an entertaining commentary from the knowledgeable captains.  After our cruise, we head to one of Shrewsbury's most prestigious Farm Shops Battlefield 1403. Located on the outskirts of Shrewsbury Battlefield 1403 offers a Farm Shop, Deli, Butchery, Cafe & Exhibition relaying the history of the battle between Henry 'Harry Hotspur' Percy and Henry IV. Here we sit down and enjoy a cream tea.

We travel to Ironbridge, one of the most important centre’s of the industrial revolution and now a delightful town of tea rooms, antique shops and, of course, the iconic bridge. We also visit Blists Hill, a fascinating recreation of a Victorian town complete with staff in authentic costume.

We visit Ludlow where Wednesday is a market day.  Ludlow has often been referred to as the perfect historic town with delightful narrow lanes and interesting shops and a castle at its heart.  It has around 500 listed buildings including the Grade II listed Feathers Hotel  which must be one of the most photographed buildings in Shropshire.  We then head to Stokesay Castle which is one of the finest and best preserved medieval manor house in England. The castle, together with its timber-framed gatehouse and parish church create a quite beautiful scene.

We commence our journey home, though we have one final visit to the RAF Museum at Cosford.  The attraction has 70 historic aircraft for you to see displayed in wartime hangars, as well as the award-winning National Cold War. Explore the huge wartime hangars where you can walk under the wings of Britain’s three V-Bombers: Vulcan, Victor and Valiant, and interact with exhibits telling the story of the Cold War.

About Our Tours

We have been operating tours and mini breaks around the U.K. and abroad for a number of years, and by far the most popular innovation that we have introduced in recent years, is to offer a virtually door to door service. Picking up as near as practically possible to your home in Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire means you don’t have to worry about getting your luggage to the coach, and avoids the additional cost of having to use taxis.

By using our small fleet of mini-buses, we are able to keep the pick-up time to a minimum and get you on your tour coach and on your way as soon as possible. This way your holiday starts on the first morning. Once your holiday is over we will collect you again from the coach park and return you home.
