A classic Scottish itinerary. Castles and Distillaries

Situated in the heart of Scotland, Pitlochry has been a tourist destination for over 150 years. The region's sparkling clean air, rich history and wonderful scenery make this an excellent base from which to explore a classic Scottish itinerary including a distillery and castle visit, in addition to an excursion to the Cairngorms.

Sunday - Day 1

This morning we will start our journey to Scotland. We will break the journey with an overnight stop at Haydock. On the way we will visit the peace and tranquillity of the National Memorial Arboretum. National Memorial Arboretum is a British site of national remembrance at Alrewas, near Lichfield, The Staffordshire. Its objective is to honour the fallen, recognise service and sacrifice, and foster pride in the British Armed Forces and civilian community

Monday - Day 2

Following our breakfast we will continue our journey to The Fishers Hotel in Pitlochry which is our base while we stay in Scotland. We will make suitable comfort stops along the way.

Tuesday - Day 3

Today we will first visit the RRS Discovery. This ship was a barque-rigged auxiliary steamship built for Antarctic research. Launched in 1901, she was the last traditional wooden three-masted ship to be built in the United Kingdom. Later in the day we will visit Glamis Castle which is one of the most impressive, romantic and reputedly haunted castles in Scotland, home to the Bowes Lyon Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne for hundreds of years and with a splendid interior, and set in beautiful gardens and grounds near Forfar in Angus.

Wednesday - Day 4

Travel further afield today for a guided tour through the magnificent Cairngorm National Park. Take a trip on the Funicular Railway to the top of Cairn Gorm and take in some of the most spectacular views in Scotland looking across the famous mountainous landscape which epitomises this beautiful country. In the afternoon we will have a cream tea at Atholl Palace

Thursday - Day 5

A classic excursion for any tour of Scotland is a visit to a distillery. Blair Athol Distillery in the centre of town is one of the oldest working distilleries in the country, producing 12 year old single malt whisky drawing the crystal clear waters of the Allt Dour burn. A tour and tasting is included. After taking an excursion for a photo opportunity at the not-to-be-missed 'Queen's View', the afternoon is free for independent sightseeing in Pitlochry.

Friday - Day 6

After breakfast we will load the coach with our suitcases and start the journey back to the West Country with suitable comfort stops. On the way we will stop at the Moffatt Woollen Mills for a bit of retail therapy. In the afternoon we will continue on our way to the hotel in Haydock for our overnight stop.

Saturday - Day 7

After breakfast we will complete our journey back to the West Country.
