Join us as we travel to the beautiful Yorkshire Dales

With a conveniently located base, this itinerary features the best of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park with two scenic railway rides; the Settle & Carlise Railway and Embsay & Bolton Abbey Railway. A canal boat trip with commentary from the very funny Dave Spikey and a visit to the historic city of York, including a visit to the National Railway Museum. Imagine a city with Roman roots and a Viking past, where ancient walls surround contemporary independent shops and vibrant eateries and there’s a festival for every month of the year. Welcome to York - the Original City Adventure!

Sunday - Day 1

This morning we will start our journey to Yorkshire with suitable comfort stops along the way. On the way we will visit Holmfirth, the location of Last Of The Summer Wine. Located in the heart of the beautiful Holme Valley, Holmfirth is a small town that sits just north of the Peak District in West Yorkshire.
The town is better known as the location for the popular BBC TV series Last of the Summer Wine, with thousands of fans making the journey every year to visit such locations as Sid's Cafe and Nora Batty's Steps.

Monday - Day 2

A full day guided excursion through the Yorkshire Dales National Park, to the pleasant market town of Appleby. More correctly known as Appleby-in-Westmorland, it is a market town and civil parish in the Eden district of Cumbria. Appleby was the county town of the historic county of Westmorland and the smallest such town in England. We then board the famous Settle to Carlisle Railway for the journey south to Settle for more wonderful dales scenery. Rejoin the coach and return to the hotel.

Tuesday - Day 3

After breakfast we will journey to Embsay to enjoy a return steam train journey to Bolton Abbey. Rejoin the coach for the short trip to the charming market town of Skipton, with time at leisure here to wander around the lovely cobbled streets and shops before taking a relaxing canal trip with an hilarious cruise commentary from Dave Spikey. After our canal trip we will return to the hotel.

Wednesday - Day 4

Today we travel to the splendid city of York and enjoy the history and culture of this walled riverside city. York is a walled city in northeast England that was founded by the ancient Romans as Eboracum. Its huge 13th-century Gothic cathedral, York Minster, has medieval stained glass and 2 functioning bell towers. The City Walls form a walkway on both sides of the River Ouse. Our next destination is the magnificent National Railway Museum for an interesting and informative end to the day.

Thursday - Day 5

After breakfast this morning we will load the coach and start our journey home. Our lunchtime stop is Lichfield. Lichfield is a vibrant and historic city and district located in the heart of Staffordshire, just north of Birmingham. Noted for it's famous 3-spired cathederal and as the birthpace of Samuel Johnson, writer of the first English dictionary. After lunch we continue to our journey back to the West Country
